I read a book, "The Magic Pear Tree".

This story is interesting!!!
This is a story about Shen who is selfish, a hungry beggar, a kind woman, pears and a little bit of magic. Shen had a big garden. There was a tree of pears. He thought that he sold pears at the market and got a lot of money. A beggar asked him to give a pear, but had no money. Shen shouted "Go away!". A kind woman looked the scene. She asked him to give the beggar a pear. However, Shen rejected. Then she bought a pear for the beggar.The beggar was delighted. He ate the pear and dug a hole to drop in the seeds. A crowd came to watch. He poured hot tea into the hole. The shoot grew and grew. The beggar gave everyone pears. He chopped down the tree and strolled away while no one was watching the beggar. When Shen looked at his box of pears, there was no pears. He found that pears were his and were angry. Everyone laughed at it and "Next time, you'll be less selfish." they said.

BR1-08: Why the Sea is Salty

I read a book, “Why the Sea is Salty”.

This story is a traditional tale from Korea. There is a similar story in Sweden.

Today, the sea is salty, but long years ago, the sea was not salty as today. It was sweet. It became salty because of millstone. A great King had the millstone. This millstone was not a ordinary millstone but a magic millstone. It made whatever the King asked for, for example, gold, jewels, special spices and so on… all the time, the millstone can satisfy the King’s desires. One day, a poor thief tried to steal it. He went to the palace and asked the guards to see the palace. The guard showed the thief the palace. The thief followed the guard and looked for the millstone. He asked the guard about the millstone. The guard carelessly told him about the millstone. Thanks to the guard, he could get the millstone and ran away as fast as he could. Then he took a boat and sailed away. On the boat, he ate a bun, but he wanted salt which put on the bun. He asked the millstone to get salt. It made salt. He jumped for joy. Then he fell asleep. The millstone kept turning while he slept. The pile of salt grew bigger, bigger and bigger!!! When he got up, there were a lot of salt on the boat. By and by the boat filled with salt and sank into the sea. At last, he punished by the King.

I had never heard this story. It is very interesting, isn't it? According to this story, your bad conduct makes you bad. I also do think so.

Cute present

Today, I had a part-time job. Miyo, a classmate in Marist high school, came to the shop which I work. I was surprised!!! Why are you here??! She goes to university in Fukuoka. She came to Kumamoto to give me a birthday present. I am happy.

Last Week

My other classes

I take a teacher-training course. I have 18 other classes including 3 classes for a teacher-training course. I like them very much! I have 3 classes for the second foreign languages, Chinese and French. Last year, I learned French. The more I study , the more I like it. I have not learned Chinese before. Chinese pronunciation is the most important when we learn Chinese, but it is the most difficult. I'll listen to CD in Chinese every week. I read a book, “The Old Woman who lived in a Shoe”.

This is a story about woman who lived with a lot of children in a shoe. Children run over at rooms in a shoe. The old woman thought that we needed a shoe which is bigger than what we have lived in. She went to a lot of shoe stores, but there was a big one. When she was on a way home, she met a giant man. Then, he cried because there was a crab on his toe. The old woman pulled and took it off. The giant jumped for joy and said “can I help you?” Then, the old woman asked him to give her his shoe. He gave her his shoe willingly. At last, a number of room increased and the old woman and children had spaces to have fun.

I would like to live in a shoe house. Why did the old woman have so many children? The giant is so cute. Ha ha ha... Please read it.

May 13th---May 14th

May 13th, I stayed at Shihori's house with colleagues at that night. There were 5 people, Shihori, Ai, Rina, Mika and me. They all are older than I. They call me "Pi-chan", "USAGIchan" or "Yamapi-". We cooked okonomiyaki, gohyah chanpuru- that fried dishes of bitter melon and egg and uncooked egg rolls. They taste good!!! At 0:00, it's May 14th. It's my 20th birthday! "Happy birthday!!!" they cried and brought a chocolate cake which they bought at THIRTY-ONE ICE CREAM. I was surprised, but so happy!!! The cake was so delicious♥　A lot of friends sent mails to congratulate my birthday for me. Thank you very much!!!


This is Shihori. She is older than I by 10 years. In March, she came to the shop we work. She is of a cheerful disposition! When I work with her, I have a pleasant work.






This is Mika and Ai. Mika is 23 years old and Ai is 21 years old. They are so kind, so I am looked after by them. Ai came to the shop we work in March.

Mother's Day

Today is the Mother's Day!!!
Did you do anything for your mother? I presented flowers in container with TOTORO. My sister gave a letter. My mother looked so happy, so I'm so happy!

Do you know the origin of Mother's Day? Mother's Day originated in U.S.A, VA. May 9th in 1905, an mother of someone whose name is Anna Jarvis died. One year later, she distributed white carnations at church in order to mourn for her mother.This is the first Mother's Day. In 1914, the President Wilson established the Mother's Day on the second Sunday in May. It started from 1915 in Japan. It was announced by Morinaga confectionery company and spread throughout people in 1937.

I looked over about Mother's Day in other countries. In Korea, there is not Mother's Day, but Parental Day is on May 8th. In Taiwan, Mother's Day is the great event through a year as an event that people give presents. Most of them give accessories for present. The way to express gratitude for mother and the date are different, but there are the day for mother in other countries. The gratitude for mother is important.

BR1-06: The Fairground Ghost

I read a book, "The Fairground Ghost"

One day, Jake saw a poster which inform the fair on his way to school. He wanted to go to the fair, but he had to find someone who goes with him. First, he asked his father. Next, he asked his mother because of his father's rejection. However, she also rejected. Finally, he asked his sister. Jake, Marcia and Brad who was Marcia’s boyfriend went to the fairground. Marcia and Brad entered into the Tunnel of Love, Jake acted independently. Actually, he wanted something scary. He found The Ghost Train and climbed abroad it. When the train was in darkness, there were glowing ghouls and scary skeletons. People shrieked and the ghosts moaned back, but Jake was delighted. The train went around the final bend and a little ghost appeared. The little ghost was funny thing rather than scary one for Jake. When he left the train, he was still laughing. “What’s so funny?” he said. A Ghost Inspector heard it. He sounded cross, so Jake was worried. The Inspector asked the owner to find the funny ghost because he measured the ghost on his scare-o-meter. The ghost appeared. Jake was worried about its result. “What would happen to the ghost if it failed the test?” he thought. ...............
The little ghost failed the test and lost confidence. That was why the little ghost was dismissed by the owner. The little ghost started to glide away sadly. Jake ran after the ghost. He caught its hand and took it to a merry-go-round in order to cheered it up. The ghost, however, was afraid. Next, Jake tried the roller coaster. At first, the little ghost loved it, but it was afraid when the roller coaster started. After that, he took it to the Hall of Mirrors. They entered into the building. The little ghost closed its eyes.
“open your eyes.” Jake said. As he said, it opened its eyes…..
“AAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!” it screamed because it was afraid of a big thing that was showed in the mirror and went out of there. The eerie howls of the ghost echoed around the fairground. Everyone was afraid. Jake ran after it and he explained that what it saw was the little ghost. Then it smiled and recovered confidence. It tried the test again. It had good result then. The owner said, “Welcome back!” Other ghosts and the owner all were delighted to the little ghost back. Thanks to the little ghost, the Ghost Train became popular among people and became the busiest ride in the fairground. Jake got ride free every time because the little ghost was thankful to Jake.

I think that a funny ghost is also good. If ghosts all are scary, it's so boring. I like the little ghost.

May 2nd: UMITAMAGO

Now, I tell you about yesterday.
I went to the aquarium, UMITAMAGO with my family and my mother's friend. It is in Oita. Have you been there? I went there for the first time. We left my home at 6 o'clock in the morning and drove there for 3 hours. My sister and I slept in my car. A parking lot was crowded. After parking a car, we bought tickets and entered into the aquarium. There were so cute animals. First of all, we looked at fishes in a water tank. There were a lot of kind of fishes. I felt as if I had been in the sea. Second, we watched the walrus show. One walrus can draw a picture, another one can sit-up. They were so cute. My sister looked pleased. Next, we watched the dolphin show. They jumped very high and dribbled a ball. They are so smart. I was impressed with them. Next, we looked seals and sea otters. Lastly, PENGUIN!!! I like penguins the best of all animals. I was looking forward seeing them but almost all penguins were in their house. There was only one penguin outside. Maybe, it was very hot. I was disappointed. Oh no... However, I looked at them hardly. They were so cute. There was a penguin whose birthday is same as my birthday. His name is Mitsukuni. I perfectly took a picture of a board his profile was written. After that, we entered a souvenir shop, but the shop was crowded with people. We went out of the shop at once.
After we left Oita, we had a dinner at the PIETRO which is Italian restaurant. I ate pasta and it tastes so good. We came home at 11 p.m. My mother drove for about 8 hours!!! She was so tired. Thank you, mom. I had a good day. I would like to go to UMI-NO-NAKAMICHI that is an aquarium in Fukuoka.

BR1-05: The Story of Castles

I read a book,"The Story of Castles".

You know that kings and queens of fairytale live in beautiful castles. In fact, about 1000 years ago, lords and ladies lived in castles. Raiders from the far north sailed down and attacked villages across Europe. One day, a wealthy lord had an idea. He tried to build a castle to protect the villagers and their land. His castle was finished. The castle was surrounded by a high fence and there was a hall which people could eat at, a chapel to pray for victory, and so on...in a high fence. The castle became so popular and every lords wanted their own castles. The lords realized wooden castles were easily broken, so he rebuild with stone. Lords built a variety of castles. In one place, the fashion was round shape. Another lord built a tower with ten sides. To protect their castles from attackers, they made traps, for example, gatehouse, drawbridge, tunnels under the walls. When they won, they held huge feasts to celebrate. There were also jugglers, dancers and singers. They all had a great time.
However the fun couldn't last... The cannon was invented. It can blast holes in the biggest castle. Then lords stopped fighting each other and banded together to fight other countries.
At last, lords and ladies decided that they didn't want to live in castles which was cold, dark and noisy, so they stopped building castles.
Today, we handle these castles carefully as ruins.

This book teaches castle's history. I knew that castles were built to protect people who were in there. Ancient improved their castles, so they are so smart!!!

Golden week

GW started!!!!!!
Today is the first day of GW. I had a part-time job. A lot of customers came to my shop. When I put stocks in order, my finger was hurt by scissors. Immediately, I bought an adhesive plaster at a drugstore. BAD LUCK!!!
After work, I went to my grandmother's house. It has been quite a long time since I last saw my grandparents, so I was so happy.
